Moving Documents From Your Device to Google Drive

As we continue to update and swap out devices, it's important to know how to move your documents from your Windows device to Google Drive. This article will show you how you can move your files on your own.

First, open your Google Drive. It should look similar to this. (Your folders and items will be personalized to what you've added.)

Next, Click on the New button on the left hand side. This opens a drop down box like the one below.

Depending on how you'd like to structure your Google Drive, you may want to make a new folder. I chose to create the "Computer" folder so I knew that those items are what came off of my computer.(Name it whatever you'd like.) If you choose not to create a folder, ignore this step.

Once you click Create, it will make the folder and highlight it blue on your drive. Go ahead and open this folder.

If you chose to skip creating a folder, this is where you join back in.

There are two different ways you can add files. You can open your File Explorer, highlight your items, and then drag & drop these files into Google Drive.

When you drop it into your Drive, it begins the upload, and gives a progress bar. As you can see in this image, my 4 uploads are complete.

OR

You may select the New button again, and either select File upload or Folder upload.

Doing it this way, the file explorer opens for you to navigate to the folder you need. For file upload, you can select multiple things by clicking and dragging (highlighting), or holding the Ctrl button and clicking each item you'd like to select. Click open, and it will start uploading and you will see the progress of the upload on the bottom right hand side of your drive.

If you choose to upload a folder (which uploads everything inside that folder,) file explorer opens, and you can select the folder. You can upload multiple folders the same way as you did the files, by clicking and dragging or by holding the Ctrl key as you select the items you wish to upload.

You will do this for every file and folder you want to keep.
